Autobiography

My life was not always driven by education.  I found after many years of strenuous labor, the abuse I was imposing on my body was taking a toll. I worked as a safety representative, roustabout, crane and heavy equipment operator in the oilfields as well as a custodian, groundskeeper and mechanic in the public school system before becoming a teacher in 2006. Once I became a teacher of Automotive Technology, I decided to return to school and finish my educational experience. I returned to Taft College in 2006 and completed my Associate’s degree in 2008. In 2010 I started my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and completed this in 2012. In 2014, I once again returned to school and started my Master of Arts Degree in Education and finished in 2016. Now, I’m excited to pursue and earn certifications that will further enhance my resume’ and qualifications. I understand the importance of education, however I realize that it’s not for everyone. I believe the experience and trials I’ve had throughout my life have prepared me for this future.

I’ve found that my Industrial background coupled with my passion for teaching has provided me with a unique ability to communicate with people from all demographics. I am able to communicate with a wide range of personnel ranging from CEO’s to the general laborer. I pride myself on feedback from the students I teach. Some of the best direct quotes from a few of my students are as follows:

  • Knowledgeable, cares about every student.

  • He understands that people come from different backgrounds and knows how to work with them in different ways.

  • Don is an awesome teacher and wants to help in any way possible to make sure students understand the material being taught.

  • He is simple to get along with and is willing to work with anyone that needs help. All around great guy.

  • Best teacher I’ve ever had. Genuinely cares for students.

I have hundreds of student evaluations and all generally speak the same language as stated above.

I possess great people and communication skills and hope to pass on this amazing gift I’ve been blessed with to those in industry. I stand for what’s right and I back my word as well as my company 100%.
